Star Trek: Voyager -- The Delta Federation

The Delta Federation is built from my belief that they should never have tried to return to the Alpha Quadrant. Not only should Voyager have made a home on the planet of the '37's, but it also was an excellent opportunity to bring the ideals and principles of the Federation to the Delta Quadrant. This series is my exploration of that lost chance.

The End and The Beginning (PG-13)

The story and series that started me writing fanfic. This story veers from canon just shortly after the second season opener, "The 37s." When an unexpected attack cripples Voyager, Captain Janeway faces some very hard choices and decisions. (70KB)

Uncertain Smile (PG-13)

I'm fascinated by Ensign Samantha Wildman. This story takes place just a couple of weeks after "E&B" and follows the aftermath of Wildman's trauma. It also explores what Christianity in the 24th century might be like. (60KB)

Queen of the Lilac Time (R, J/C)

Having made it safely back to Freedom, Captain Janeway is lost and must now grieve. Chakotay and Janeway explore the relationship they had been avoiding. I am very, very proud of this story and think it has some the best writing I've ever done. A bittersweet romantic tale. (55KB)

Mission to Kilh'Daqh (PG-13, J/C)

The legendary uncompleted story. This one was planned as a large exploration of Federation-building (a favorite topic of mine and why I'm a DS9 fan), but when I saw how massive it would be I thought I might tackle something smaller first. That choice led to my second legendary uncompleted story, "Five Scorpions."

I'm posting what has been written so far and the story's outline just to satisfy the curious. This story is set five years after the events of "E&B,' and details the burgeoning Delta Federation's first efforts to recruit a large empire. Commander Chakotay faces difficult negotiations, hard realities, and uncomfortable choices. UNFINISHED (62KB)

On Wings of Love and Steel (PG-13, VOY, P/f)

It seemed a natural--Tom Paris and Amelia Earhart. Both love to fly--mightn't they also love each other? Then I did research on Amelia and discovered she likely wouldn't fall in love with Tom. He's definitely not her type! So, I tried to steer the story in a different direction and foundered on the shoals of lost momentum. UNFINISHED

A Collection of Short, Comic Pieces I have a bizzare sense of humor--or so I'm told. I see things a little bit differently. I can't tell jokes, but I'm fast with a quip. Comedy writing comes more easily than dramatics, but only when I'm inspired; and then it just burns and flows.
Seven Meet Her Spirit Guide (PG, VOY)

Chakotay's effort to help Seven understand spirituality takes her to an unexpected place. (13KB)

Rudolph the Shuttlecraft (PG, VOY)

A heartwarming Christmas fable, based on the familiar reindeer. (7KB)

My Name is Damar (R, DS9)

A challenge response. Damar works the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous during the events of the "Final Chapter" arc of Deep Space Nine's final season. One day at a time! (32KB)

Data, Tribble, and Spot--Oh My! (NC-17, TNG)

Winner of the 1998 Golden O award for "Best Humor. Story" A very ribald and explicit bad pun. (13KB)

The Wild, The Beautiful and The Damned (PG, VOY)

The crew of Voyager as a team of superheroes, sort of. A loving parody of cliches. (15KB)

The Neelix Program (PG-13, VOY)

Many people dislike the little hedgehog. Certain people want to do things to him. (9KB)

Next In Line (PG-13, VOY)

Ever have to go to the bathroom--bad? Tom Paris makes a very bad pun. (3KB)

"I Hate Time Paradoxes!" (PG-13, VOY)

Captain Janeway's biggest gripe comes to pass and all hell breaks loose. (10KB)

Neelix--Love God (PG-13, VOY)

Neelix is stranded on a alien world, but it's not so bad.

The Gashlycrumb Trekkies (R, VOY)

Edward Gorey wrote the ghastly "Gashlycrumb Tinies. "A is for Alice, who fell down the stairs. B is for Basil, assaulted by bears." This is a loving tribute to him, written after learning of his passing in 2000.

I watched entirely too much television growing up. The following stories reflect that influence.

The Voyager Bunch (PG, VOY)

A groovy blend of The Brady Bunch and Star Trek: Voyager. "Seven, Seven, Seven!" B'Elanna learns a Very Special Lesson. (9KB)

Time for Teletubbies (G, VOY)

Voyager lands on a very strange world.

The Love Voyager (R, VOY)

Captain Janeway has a cunning plan--make Voyager a cruise ship! (11KB)

Star Trek: Good Ol' Boys (PG-13, TNG)

What if Star Trek: The Next Generation was written for the HeeHaw viewer? (7KB)

Tub Time With Jon & Marina (R, TNG)

A new show that dishes the dirt on the Star Trek Network. (13KB)

The New Season (PG-13, ALL)

It's time to introduce the new season of shows on the Star Trek Network. (22KB)

26 Hours (R, DS9)

60 Minutes on Deep Space Nine. Mike Wallace is still there! (9KB)

The Candy Sketch (PG-13, VOY)

A Monty Python challenge story. Tuvok quizzes Neelix on some new candies he's offering. (7KB)

The Cardassian Inquisition (PG, TNG)

No one expects the Cardassian Inquisition! Least of all, Jean-Luc Picard. Another Monty Python challenge story. (11KB)

Star Trek: Clambake! (PG-13, TNG)

If Star Trek: The Next Generation was a Sixties Elvis Presley beach movie. (12KB)

The Cat Stories No doubt about it--I like cats. I had two who were special--Wildman and Dirtbox. They couldn't have been more different; watching them I learned a lot. And they work their way into everything you have and everything you do.
Station Cat (PG, DS9)

Miles O'Brien finds a cat aboard Deep Space Nine. Now, can he catch it? (13KB)

Three of Five (PG, VOY)

The Doctor insists that Seven get a pet--specifically a cat. (11KB)

Resistance is Feline (PG, VOY)

Litter training reaches epic proportions when Borg meets cat. #2 in the Three of Five trilogy. (11KB)

The Reactions of Mammals to Dermal Stimulation (PG-13, VOY, 7/K)

Seven is learning a lot from her cat. Now she starts to apply these lessons. #3. (21KB)

The Psychology of Interdependent Relationships (PG-13, VOY, 7/K)

When Three of Five gets sick, Seven is plunged into new emotions she can't deal with. It's up to Harry to provide the support his girlfriend needs. UNFINISHED

The "Literary" Stuff These stories are some of my most ambitious writing. Each one is a conscious effort to try something or reach somewhere I hadn't before.
I Have No Tears and I Must Cry (NC-17, DS9, O/K)

An interesting and dark experiment in which I tried to imitate the style of Harlan Ellison. A very different Odo has a frightening, almost hallucinatory, relationship to Major Kira. (10KB)

When The Sun Rises, I Will Not See (NC-17, VOY; P/T, P/K, J/P)

In an alternate universe, one in which the Maquis and Federation halves of the crew failed to mesh and the ship is a dangerous and treacherous place, the events of "30 Days" play out to a very different conclusion. The title comes from the song "Traitor," by The Sugarcubes. WARNING! This story is very dark and disturbing and does not let up. (58KB)

Black Angel's Death Song (R, VOY, T/m)

Voyager finds an immortal being who wants to die. Finding out why, B'Elanna learns some lessons on life. This story utilises the Book of Enoch from the Biblical Apocrypha as the basis for Sariel's life and world and tragedy. It's a good story, but I need to come back to it one day and fix the plot and structural flaws. (117KB)

Five Scorpions (PG-13, TNG)

LATEST REVISION! My other legendary uncompleted story. The most complex and political story I've written to date. An action/adventure story with political thriller overtones. Jean-Luc Picard is sent to a world next to the Neutral Zone that's on the edge of civil war. Ambassador Saavik may be an ally or part of the problem. And the Romulans are always nearby. UNFINISHED (147KB)

Five Scorpions: Notes and Outlines

Author's notes, background, and bits of story outline. For those curious about the process of writing. If there's any interest, I may also post earlier drafts of this story to show how it's been evolving through each draft.

Aesetei(R, VOY)

An accident drops Voyager into a star system where they find a ship of runaways. Captain Janeway faces a test: Can she do what the Prime Directive requires?

Are "Friends" Electric? (R, TNG, Y/D)

An alternate version of events following the first season ep, "The Naked Now." Tasha is horrified by what she's done and runs away. She learns who her friends really are.

Arzije(PG-13, TNG)

The Enterprise' new ensign is vexing and utterly peculiar. When Picard and crew are sent to her homeworld to prevent civil war, a surprising truth is revealed. And a marvelous opportunity presents itself.... UNFINISHED

Plain Old-Fashioned Short Stories Just like Grandma used to write. Sometimes you can just say what you want to say and then get out.
An Evening of Fun in the Metropolis of Dreams (R, VOY; K/7, J/C, 7, N)

An "invading your dreams" story. An alien being discovers the Voyager crew's dream world is a regular smorgasbord. The title comes from the song "On Returning," by Wire. (37KB)

The Surf Shack (PG, VOY, P/T)

Tom needs to win back B'Elanna's heart. Sixties beach music is the key. (14KB)

My Dinner With Seven (PG-13, VOY, 7/m)

Hey, a guy can dream, can't he? A rewriting of "Someone to Watch Over Me" with yours truly replacing Lt. Chapman and having a better time of it, too. (43KB)

Just Being (PG, VOY, K/7)

Ensign Kim is relaxing, enjoying shore leave when Seven and the rain appear. They share a moment. A challenge response story. ("Soothing Summer Rain" and "Ice Cream and Strawberries.") (17KB)

Another Music in a Different Holodeck (PG-13, VOY, 7/K)

A song fic, using "Duel" by Propaganda. Seven gives a recital; the music connects and begins to move her.

Red Sails in the Sunset (PG, VOY, J/C)

Voyager finally arrives in the Alpha Quadrant. Chakotay's plans may or may not include Janeway. It's up to her.

Tears, With Wine Chaser (R, TNG, P/C)

Mourning the death of the Picard family name, Jean-Luc also tries to push away Dr. Crusher. When she won't have it, a new chance leads to a new beginning. UNFINISHED (11KB)

I Wish, I Hope (PG-13, VOY, K/7)

A coda to "Someone to Watch Over Me." Harry mopes; Seven reconsiders. Neither hears what the other is saying.

Vignettes Too short to be stories, these are simple evocations of mood and moment. The point is to hit the nail, hit it hard, and hit it once. A short, sharp 'bang' should result.
Ache(PG, VOY, J/C)

While in the spirit world, Chakotay longs for his Captain. (7KB)

Sleep(PG-13, VOY, J/C)

Janeway longs for a deceased Chakotay and waits for the only place they can still be together. The title is from the song "Sleep," by Til Tuesday and the lyrics are used throughout. (9KB)

Unison(PG, VOY, J/m)

An alternate outcome to "Counterpoint," where Kashyk defects and stays with Janeway. They share an Indiana sunset in the holodeck. (13KB)

Too Late, I Have My Answer (PG, VOY, J/m)

Set in the alternate universe of "Unison," where Kashyk defected instead. As Voyager arrives back in the Federation, Kashyk and Janeway must face where their relationship goes. (19KB)

The "Cutting Room Floor" Drabbles (PG-13, TNG)

In response to a challenge on ASC to write one drabble a day for a week of scenes that might have ended up on the cutting room floor, I came up with these.

Unfinished Symphonies Since mid-1999 I have suffered with a sputtering Muse. I don't write much any more and have difficulty finishing what I've already started. The following are stories that got off to a good start and then... died. I'd rather folks read the skeleton than that they stay hidden forever.

+7 (Add Seven) (R, VOY, 7/K, K/f)

Also once titled "Adrenaline" and "Lucifer's Bloom." Seven is accidentally overdosed with a stimulant that causes psychosis. She focuses like a laser on Harry Kim, her dangerous and unbridled passions burning him and others. A dark and disturbing story that I never completed because I can't get back to the dark and disturbing place required to finish it! This story was intended to have a Shoutcast soundtrack you would listen to as you read the story. When I couldn't get the Shoutcast channel together, I interspersed the lyrics throughout the story. This file includes all those lyrics and others not used. UNFINISHED

The Blurred Crusade (PG-13, VOY, J/C)

After returning to the Alpha Quadrant, at the end of her life Janeway is haunted by the ghost of one man. This story was going to use various military metaphors. The title is from the album of the same name by The Church. UNFINISHED

Two Ravens, Alone (PG-13, VOY)

Voyager runs into an Annika Hansen who might have been. Seven must confront some of the choices she's made and finds her life inadequate and lacking. But Annika may have motives and problems of her own. This story was going to explore the idea of the doppelganger, the "double walker" or shadow. Set somewhere late in the fourth season. UNFINISHED

A Letter To Home (PG, VOY, J/C)

On an alternate Voyager, after contacting the Alpha Quadrant as they did in the sixth season, Captain Janeway explains to Admiral Paris the surprising turn of events on a very different Voyager. This was a "what if?" story exploring a Voyager where, instead of following Starfleet rules so closely, they devised a system intended to work for a lifetime. UNFINISHED

The Absoluteness of Music (PG, VOY, 7/m)

An abandoned followup to "My Dinner with Seven." The next day and a second date--at Harry Kim's recital. UNFINISHED

I Should've Known Better (R, VOY, J/C)

A song fic, using the title song by Wire. Another AU Voyager, like the one in "When The Sun Rises, I Will Not See." And this Chakotay, knowing that Voyager is held together only because he wants it that way, uses his power over Janeway to dark and abusive ends. UNFINISHED

Temptation(PG-13, VOY)

I didn't make notes when I started this, thinking I'd finish it quickly. Oops! Now, I can't remember where it was going. Something to do with some stranded scientists needing Tom as a pilot to save themselves, and how they try to hornswoggle him into it. I forget. UNFINISHED
